Wireless power was the BIG thing at last year’s CES. Wildcharge, a company that manufactures wireless charging pads, announced more adapters that can charge different mobile devices without wires. Wildcharge had previously won the CES Best of Innovation Award last year and is named 2007’s Best Inventions by TIME magazine. The new adapters supports Wildcharge-enabled devices such as Apple iPhone, iPod Touch, Blackberry Pearl and Blackberry 8800.
WildCharge’s technology is more than a simple charging solution for mobile devices - it’s a true revolution that will ultimately eliminate the array of tangled chargers, adapters and cords consumers currently deal with on a regular basis,” WildCharge CEO Dennis Grant said, while displaying WildCharge’s device adapter for Apple’s iPhone. “There’s no ‘trickle charge’ here. Our technology delivers instant power to all WildCharge-enabled consumer electronic devices just as if they were connected directly to an electric outlet. Virtually any consumer electronic device can be readily WildCharge-enabled.

So how does the Wildcharger works?
If you try to recall your secondary school physics/science, you would have remembered learning about electromagnetic induction and inductive coupling. AC (alternating current) is drawn in by the pad and this creates a changing magnetic field. The changing magnetic field then induces current into the mobile devices that are placed on the charging pad. Since the strength of electromagnetic waves reduces greatly through distance away from the source, these mobile devices have to be situated on the pad at all times to have maximum charging power.
