Intel unveils its smallest solid state drive (SSD) at CES 2008

January 6th, 2008 · No Comments

The International CES (Computer Electronics Show) will kick off in a days time and exhibitors have been rolling out their innovations that will WOW the crowd. Many SSDs innovations have been seen in this year’s CES. One of them is Intel’s smallest SSD which is slightly smaller than the size of your fingertips! The Z-P140 SSD can hold up to 2GB of data and Intel is said to be coming up with a 4GB version.

Intel’s move is quite different from other SSD manufacturers like Hitachi and Samsung. The norm has been to find the largest capacity SSDs but Intel makes theirs bite-sized with a relatively small memory capacity. However, these SSDs can be soldered and integrated directly to a motherboard. This will now enable very small-integrated devices to hold up to 2GB of data. Hence, I can foresee a wide number of possibilities to what the Z-P140 and its alike can do.

The International CES will be held at Las Vegas from 7 Jan - 10 Jan. Techie-talks will bring you the latest updates of the CES. So stay tuned!
