E-mail storage wars rekindled: Google ups its e-mail storage limit to 5GB

November 20th, 2007 · No Comments

After Hotmail increased its storage limit to 5GB last August and Yahoo claims that it is offering unlimited e-mail storage, Google seems to be somewhat overtaken as the e-mail provider with the best e-mail storage capacity. Once considered the best e-mail provider for online storage of archives, it was loosing its place at the top.

However, last Saturday, Gmail users had a long waited surprise when Google’s Live ticker on Gmail.com went above the capacity to 5GB (5069MB at present). Now it is offering 5 times the capacity when it first launched in 2004.

Furthermore, after Google took away the need for invitations to get a Gmail account, the number of subscribers have been overwhelming. Sources say that Gmail has over 50 million users worldwide, placing it to be the top online e-mail provider.
