Getting frequent disconnection from wireless networks on your laptop? Update your software & drivers now.

October 29th, 2007 · No Comments

Well, if your problem is because of you being out-of-range from your wireless router, then no need to read on. However, if you seem to be in transmission range of your wireless routers but still facing these nagging disconnection problems, you might want to read on. This article mainly deals with users who are using Intel PRO/Set Wireless application to manage your wireless networks (mainly those who are using Intel PRO/Wireless 2200BG network adapters).

How to tell whether you are using the abovementioned network adapter? Open up your control panel  click on system properties. [^]Click on Hardware tab and click on device manager. Under network adapters, it should show Intel PRO/Wireless 2200BG. Alternatively, just press “windows key+break” and start from [^].

Next, you’ll need to find the version of your Intel Wireless Pro (IWP) application. Double click the IWP icon at your taskbar to launch the application main page. Then click on Help (at the top navigation bar) and click on About. It should show something like this:

My version is 11.1.1.0. Anything below this version, please update! You can update your application and drivers here. Download the IPW for 2200BG network adapters. Uninstall  the current IPW software (using Add/Remove Programs) before installing the new one.

After installing the newer software application, you will definitely see the difference in connection fidelity! Good luck!
