Somehow there seems to be a problem with Singnet’s connection to overseas websites tonight. Torrents are downloading slowly, MSN seems to be lagging and overseas site just won’t load! There seems to be some problem at the Singnet’s side. Calling the tech support would be futile because they’ll just ask you to reboot your modem and restart your computer. But the problem will definitely persist!
There’s one way to solve the problem of slow loading websites though. You’ll need to configure some settings in your internet browser.
Firefox
1. Go to tools -> Options.
2. Goto Advanced and click on Network tab
3. Under connections, click Settings
4. Check the button for HTTP PROXY and put in the space HTTP PROXY:
proxy.singnet.com.sg 5. Put your port number to 8080
6. Click OK and restart firefox.
Internet Explorer
1. Goto Tools -> Internet settings
2. Click on connections tab and then on Lan settings
3. Check the “Use proxy server for your lan ……. ” button and click on “Advanced” button:
4. Under HTTP box, put
proxy.singnet.com.sg5. Replace the port number with 8080
6. Click OK and restart Explorer.
Now, you can surf overseas website as usual!

Hm. this proxy if I’m not wrong, filters out sites that are not “family safe”. So… yea.

Actually, Singapore forces all web traffic to go through a proxy that filters out all not “family safe” content. I.e. you are faced with this filtering whether you configure the proxy or not…
Try play boy dot com for example with or without proxy setting and you get the same results…

It is the LAW for all ISPs to filter internet through proxy in Singapore.
Hence, all ISPs in singapore uses proxy of some sort, major ones like singnet , starhub have transparent proxies in place.
Actually , there are just a few censored(blacklisted) websites by SG government. Some porn, some political/cult/etc.

Putting in the proxy.singnet.com.sg Port 8080 helps in getting the most speed available. TQ!
